Dodgers Take Down Marlins, But Hernández Injury Looms

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their strong play with a 7-4 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night, marking their eighth win in the last nine games and a positive start to their ten-game road trip. However, the win was somewhat overshadowed by an injury to key outfielder Teoscar Hernández.

Game Highlights:

  • Ohtani and Freeman Power Offense: Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman both homered for the Dodgers, with Ohtani’s blast being the hardest-hit home run in MLB this season at 117.9 mph. This was Ohtani’s ninth home run of the year, tying him for the team lead. Freeman’s homer was his seventh of the season and his 41st career against the Marlins, tying him for the most against Miami by any opponent.
  • Kim Makes Impressive Debut: South Korean rookie Hyeseong Kim made his first MLB start for the Dodgers and had a memorable night. He went 2-for-4 at the plate, recording his first major league hit and his first RBI. He also scored a run on Ohtani’s home run.
  • Solid Pitching Performance: Ben Casparius earned the win for the Dodgers, relieving opener Jack Dreyer and pitching four innings while allowing only one run.
  • Marlins Late Push: Rookie Agustin Ramirez hit a three-run homer for the Marlins in the eighth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Dodgers’ lead.

Injury Concern for Hernández:

The major concern for the Dodgers is the health of Teoscar Hernández. He left the game in the fourth inning due to tightness in his left hamstring. Manager Dave Roberts noted that Hernández doesn’t typically come out of games due to injury, making the situation “a little concerning.” Hernández will undergo an MRI today to determine the severity of the injury. His absence would be a significant blow to the Dodgers’ offense, as he has been a key contributor, hitting .315 with a team-leading nine home runs (tied with Ohtani) and 34 RBIs.

Looking Ahead:

The Dodgers and Marlins will continue their series tonight. Right-hander Tony Gonsolin is scheduled to start for Los Angeles, while the Marlins will counter with Cal Quantrill. The Dodgers will be hoping for good news regarding Hernández’s MRI as they aim to continue their winning ways. For the Marlins, they will be looking to bounce back and secure a win against a strong Dodgers team.

Other Dodgers News:

  • Utilityman Tommy Edman was placed on the injured list with a sore right ankle, leading to Kim’s call-up and subsequent debut.

Marlins Notes:

  • The Marlins have struggled recently, losing six straight games before Monday’s matchup against the Dodgers.
  • Cal Quantrill has had a tough start to the season, with a 2-3 record and an 8.10 ERA. He also struggled in his recent outing against the Dodgers.
